Local walks

The following is a selection of walks direct from The Moretons.

Eckington village

Turn right at the end of The Moretons’ drive and walk into the village passing Queensmead and the Cheltenham junction on your left, Bredon Surgery and Bredon village hall on your right. At the junction on the right just before the railway bridge turn right to walk along Moreton Lane and Eckington Road to Eckington village and then follow the waymarked Eckington Wharf circular walk which passes the bus stop and the church on its way to the River Avon. It is 3 miles from The Moretons to Eckington and the circular walk is 3.5 miles.

Towards Twyning village

Walk through Bredon village past Bredon village hall, Cotswold Beauty Station, Tangles hairdresser and the Royal Oak pub, taking the left hand fork immediately after Bredon Pottery towards the tythe barn, then across fields to the River Avon (approx. 2 miles) opposite Twyning village and the Fleet Inn.

Beckford village

Walk along country lanes from The Moretons to Beckford village (approx 3.5 miles) through the villages of Kemerton, Overbury and Conderton. Turn left at the end of the drive and follow the road through the villages.

Bredon’s Norton, Bredon Hill and Kemerton village

Walk from The Moretons along Moreton Lane and turn right off Eckington Road up the hill to Bredon’s Norton village, walk through the village, rejoin Eckington Road farther along the road and head back towards Bredon village. Take the lane towards the cricket ground and the village of Westmancote (you will see The Moretons over the field to your right) and on the bend just after the cricket ground take the small marked lane to the left of Croft Villa. At the kissing gate at the far end walk across the field towards the old chapel. Turn left to walk up Bredon Hill, then right opposite Farm Lane to go across the fields to Kemerton village via Bayliss Road. Walk back from Kemerton along Kemerton Road and past the fork for Westmancote to return to The Moretons (approx. 6 miles).

Bredon village

Walk left out of The Moretons towards Westmancote village. At the fork in the road take a sharp left and follow the country lane round to the right. Take the footpath on the left opposite Croft Villa and walk across the field with The Moretons visible over the field to your left. At the stile, cross the road (Moreton Lane) and continue on the footpath over the railway bridge and through the field. At the gate turn along Back Lane and after the rear of Bredon Hancock’s school take the footpath to your right down towards the River Avon. Turn left on Dock Lane with the river on your right and walk past the church rooms and St Giles’ church. Continue on Church Street in to the village past the Fox & Hounds pub and Draper’s store. Return to The Moretons passing Bredon Pottery, the Royal Oak pub, Cotswold Beauty Station, Tangles hairdresser, the village hall and Bredon Surgery.

Bredon Hill

Turn left out of The Moretons and walk through Kemerton village, passing the Crown Inn and the village hall on your right. Take the left hand turn at the end of the village next to the catholic church and continue up the hill. At the end of the lane (after the parking spaces at the end of the road) walk towards Overbury Wood ahead and follow the footpath through it. The footpath continues over several fields, leading you to the folly at the top of Bredon hill.

Alternately, for a shorter walk, drive into Kemerton, take the left hand turn at the catholic church and park at the end of the lane. Follow the walk directly above from the parking spaces.
